Anyone think what's about to happen in Iran has no implications on the world economy or housing bubble? Think again. And note it's not just their oil, they're threatening to block the Straits of Hormuz. Only 40% of world supply there. Just a blip.
Oopsie - checkmate.
I'm just waiting for the appearance of the hidden imam. Wonder if CNN will cover that live.
TEHRAN, Iran - Iran threatened Saturday to use oil as a weapon if the U.N. Security Council imposes sanctions over its nuclear program. The nation's interior minister raised the possibility of using Iran's own oil and gas supplies and its position on a vital Persian Gulf oil route as weapons in the international standoff. "If (they) politicize our nuclear case, we will use any means. We are rich in energy resources. We have control over the biggest and the most sensitive energy route of the world," Interior Minister Mostafa Pourmohammadi was quoted as saying by the official Islamic Republic News Agency.

Here’s the problem. This SOB doesn’t understand negation or diplomacy, it’s not in his (their nature) to understand anything other than force. That’s how Hussein ran Iraq for decades. They certainly don’t understand democracy, nor do they respect it.
I don’t think Bush has the moral authority to attack Iran without the support of the Europeans.
Mark my words, if these bastards get a nuke, they’ll threaten Israel with it.
The Iranians are more clever/devious than that, and the first post doesn't give them credit for a sophisticated foreign policy and effective covert operations. They've flim-flammed the UN for years and they are screwing over U.S. efforts to bring stability to Iraq and Afganistan. At the same time they are stringing along the so-called peace process over the Palestinian issue just enough to keep the U.S. and Israel at bay. This is not the work of reactionary loonies -- it shows clear goals and careful planning.
They know that once they get a few nukes, like North Korea, they will be untouchable. In 50 years several EU countries will be Muslim controlled and the New Persia will rise again.
Keith, what would you do without hype and gloom/doom?
Carter damn him. All he had to do was scramble the fleet at the storming of the embassy but nooooo. Appeasment doesn't work with people who've stared you down in the past. Don't worry about Iran getting a working nuke, the Isrealis will do the mission but the Egyptians and Saudis will donate the gas and amunition.
I remember when I was 7 the day Japan bombed Pear Harbor. I could feel the fear in the adults around me. Then my father was drafted into the war.
I remember taking flattened tin cans to school in a sack.
There seems to be no end to the mad men in this world.
And they're going to shut down the strait of Hormez how? Six or seven suicide teams in rubber rafts aren't much of a match to 10 aircraft carriers.
To control the straits of hormuz, they don't even need to go anywhere near the water.
Just occupy the high ground.

Which nostril on the battery commander, left or right, would you like the RPV laden HARM to target? This ain't Little Round Top you know. Man is the US flagging of commercial vessels going to see a resurgence.
Isn't more of Iran's economy based on oil than the US?
Isn't blocking their own sales sort of like a child saying, "I'm gonna hold my breath until you gimme more candy!"
Consider this scenario:
Iran: We're gonna block the Straits for everybody!
US: No.
Iran: Fires missiles at a ship.
US: Fires more missiles and bombs at Iran's launchers. Says, "We'll escort the oil tankers."
wait a few weeks, oil producers get used to the idea that oil sales will continue.
US: "Hey everybody, go on back to selling oil. Except you, Iran."
What did Iran accomplish?
Their own blockade of oil.
Saudi Arabian billionaires send very warm greetings to the Bush family from their brand new yachts (thanks to $100/bbl oil) in the south of France.
The mere threat of mining the straight would stop most commercial shipping. Iran has proven over the past two years that they have a nearly endless supply of young martyrs. We send in a carrier battlegroup, and they send 20 exploding subway riders a month to NYC and London. Which do you think will have the biggest impact on the situation?
The EU has no stomach for war, and W has been gelded by Congress. The Iranians are playing hardball and no one has the gonads to stop them. Once they get a working nuke, they know they are home free.
Iran is going to do nothing. Big BSers. Who cares about isreal. The entire middle east is trash. Iran is bluffing. No gloom & doom if you don't own a house now your too late. keep hearing since 01 prices were going to go down, were in o6 and no gloom now everyone is talking about resets in 07,08,09 whats it going to be.
There is something about the Moslems not being allowed to lend money at interest. They have relied heavily on outsiders to provide technology, skill, and capital to develop their resources.
If deprived of outside support they might suffer their ownselves.
Talk Show Host Michael Savage said that Israel will bomb the nuclear sites in Iran which will start a major war. Iran will shut off the oil and ruin the Strait through which most of the oil flows. He said that this will futher cause a worse war and a global depression due to super high energy prices. But in the end he said everything will be OK.....
What do YOU think...
I think Bush and his neo-con advisors got this country into one hell of a mess.
One can live with snakes without polking at them with sticks or teasing them.
everyone said saddam would lite all his oil fields blah blah. USA to powerful. Were the only world power. No doom and gloom.
More Iranian hot air. Gold hasn't budged.
I agree, Iran is just trying to put on a "nutcase" act. Act weird and prickly and people listen to you. I think they learned it from Bush.
More detail on what this nut believes, and also his henchmen
Seriously.
Imam Mahdi will return at the head of the forces of righteousness and do battle with the forces of evil in one, final, apocalyptic battle. When evil has been defeated once and for all, the Imam Mahdi will rule the world for several years under a perfect government and bring about a perfect spirituality among the peoples of the world. After the Imam Mahdi has reigned for several years, Jesus Christ will return (raj'a ), as will Husayn and others. It is the return of the dead that falls under the Doctrine of Return; the Mahdi will only appear to humanity.
I agree with the "gold hasn't budged" sentiment. It's down $30 in the past week.
Along with random news stories about UN machinations, IMO the big news for the next couple of weeks is saber-rattling, hot air, pointless UN meetings, and a lot of unsourced, highly-qualified trial balloons and intentional leaks about which countries are going which way on which UN resolution.
for the "gold isn't going anywhere in the last 50 minutes" crowd...
why are you so interested in the day to day ups and downs of a stock, or a commodity, or heck, even housing prices? Day trading is sooo 1999.
Look at the overall market trends, look at the underlying factors, look at the stimuli. And stop watching the minute by minute CNBC ticker. If you're wise enough to invest, invest. Stop gambling, and stop day trading. You're gonna get killed with that thinking.
Gold is going higher. Oil is going higher. The real estate industrial complex is going lower. The dollar is going lower.
I don't mean tomorrow by noon. I mean over the next 5, 10, 20 years.
kind of a hairy dude, isn't he. Go ahead, make out day, hairy dude. Reduce our oil supply, maybe we'll finally conserve...and, oh yeah, Iran get's less dinero too.
Credit bubble = deflationary crash.
Deflation = less bucks, less credit.
less bucks, less credit= less inflation = lower gold prices.
You buy gold. I'll buy bonds and bet on cash.
Keith prove how a credit contraction can mean rising asset values. Good luck. Maybe Bush will hire you.
>>Credit bubble = deflationary crash.<<
Very unlikely because it would mean the end of the banking system and abject poverty for huge blocks of voters. Politicians will never allow it to happen, even if it is necessary to purge the bad debts. Instead, they will "fix" the problem by inflating away the debts. Deflation will only happen if the government totally collapses, and in that case ALL paper assets, bonds, stocks, currency, etc., will be worthless.
The resulting inflation and high interest rates will totally screw people on fixed incomes and those who invested in bonds. Cash? - LOL! Farmers in other countries will be using $100 bills in their outhouses. Officially, gold and silver will likely be (wink, wink) illegal. People will soon find they are the only reliable and stable medium of exchange in the underground economy and black markets.
