I've got a feeling next year at this time won't be quite so cherry for the American consumer as the housing ATM closes, interest rates move up and the wealth effect of housing ends.

It's plausible that next Christmas won't be as merry as this one. Now that Santa is not bringing any more home-equity checks spending will tank. good thing everyone is driving a SUV, there is enough room in the back for a sleeping bag and probably a flat screen TV. Should make for some 'lean' (read: cheap) nights after the house is forclosed.
