More houses for sale may mean slower market

OK, this supply and demand stuff is sooooooooo confusing... Let's see, if there are a lot more homes to buy, and there are less buyers, then prices, you're saying, may DROP? Naaahhh!

Don Fadness first got involved in Rogue Valley real estate back in 1972.

He shakes his head in disbelief at the prices homes fetch today and even expects a modest rollback.

"I think it’s slowly going to drop down, but not as bad as the early ’70s," said the designated broker at The Real Estate Center in Medford. "It’s been too rambunctious and the prices have been ridiculous."

Judging by the recent build-up of housing inventory for sale in Jackson County, there are a substantial number of homeowners who agree.

The inventory of houses in the Southern Oregon Multiple Listing Service system climbed 54 percent from October 2004 to last month in the county’s urban areas and 52 percent overall. Most notably, listings in east Medford climbed 60 percent in that period.
