Open thread for Real Estate Industrial Complex members to defend their profession

Give it a whirl. Show me how I'm wrong, that the whole system isn't corrupt and in need of Senate hearings and regulation

Life would be empty and vapid without realtors. This blog is replete with miserable losers who are jealous of my success and are too cheap to pony up the funds for a decent home. You'd rather rent a shoebox trailer with a large garbage can for your empty beer cans. Instead of criticizing hard working realtors who do an honest day's work, why don't you all take a look in the mirror, and trim the ear and nose hairs while you're there.

For your information, real estate is still a bargain, as it will continue to go up up up. Why? Because decent and good people, unlike Keith and his pessimistic uncouth crotch-scratching minions, want and will pay for a place they can call their own. And they rely upon yours truly to match them up with that perfect domicile. Am I worth the 6% commission? Damn straight I am!
Losers!!!

that last post has to be a joke, right?

Look at this pos Real Estate agent, your extinction is at hand, it's called the internet! You will go the same way as the travel agent.

BTW, homes are garbage, they have no value at all, other than what they can be rented for, which is a negative rate in most cases.

The stock market kicks the crap out of RE every GD time, you can go long the stock market, you can short the stock market, you can buy and sell within seconds, with a crappy home you are stuck in that pos until the next sheep comes around maybe a year later at a huge loss, face facts, RE is crap!

The price of a home is still ultimately determined by the seller and the buyer. If you take realtors out of the equation you will still have a negotiation in progress.

When I talk to a potential seller, he knows what his neighbor sold his home for. Word of mouth gets around ANY neighborhood. Folks can come up with a selling price on thier own.

Sellers are telling me to take a hike if I won't put their home on the market for what they perceive the home is worth currently. Fine by me because I'm in the marketing business and I'm not spending a dime on trying to sell an unsellable product. Price is the number one deterent for sales currently.

Are there unscrupulous realtors out there?? Why yes there are. Most like you'd find in ANY walk of business. So should we damn ALL business?? No. We, instead, should be smarter consumers of services and products.

You really want to take realtors to the senate hearings?? Fine, just another complete waste of time in that building. As I guarantee the members of the panel questioning the realtors are thousands of times more corrupt than who they are questioning.

As a realtor, as a leader in this industry, I'll just say that I understand the criticism that I read here. But the author correctly points out that the likes of Lereah is paid by a group that has an interest in keeping itself going. Okay, you know it and I know it. Now it still comes down to the buyer and the seller. If you are one of those YOU have choices to make. Bone up and do the best you can.

"You'd rather rent a shoebox trailer with a large garbage can for your empty beer cans."

Actually I own mine along with the 20 acres it, and my airstrip, sit on. And I have 2 large garbage cans for the empty beer cans. Some of us debt-free pilots like to drink beer after we fly and those cans need to be thrown out in a proper manner.

My crotch is actually "scratch and sniff". My mortgage is ZERO, and I make things for people that bring them joy and a sense of value. I know your type, more than anyone, you want it for less than it is worth and are counting on me to be overextended so you can get it.

Thank you Keith, but please understand that I don't always agree with your views. However I also get your blog and for the most part your readers. I know why they come here to read.

I'll defend what I think is defensible at times and perhaps agree with your criticisms of my industry on occasion.

This is kind of a radical blog, but there's enough interesting content to keep me around... even if I am the enemy.

You are not the enemy. The enemy would be a threat. You are an obsolete worker that is being replaced by the internet.

Ditto the comments about Entertained Realtor. Some of them do have brains. Actually, a lot of them are fun to hang around with if you're not working with them. They are salespeople, after all, 100% dependent on commissions to survive. So, I do have some sympathy. Some.

I like to think the first poster, and the legions like him, are simply incredibly self-delusional and not malicious. If they were malicious, I'd feel a lot worse about human nature.

That first post is old fashioned flame bait. A Troll.
"Am I worth the 6% commission? Damn straight I am!"
Eveyone who read the post can see that the author does not know that the average commission is closer to 5% split among 2 agents.

I worked as a Real Estate Agent. I finally quit that line of work because I could not stand listening to all the lies from other agents and brokers.

Yes I admit I am a Realtor. BUT would I ever work in this business full time? NO WAY. I sell my own real estate and my friends buy and sell through me. Why? Bad experiences with a bunch of incompetent and stupid realtors. To the "realtor" who called real estate still a bargain, You must be on ether or something else to be that delusional.

Like last poster, I do real estate on the side. I see both good and bad. All you people who bitch about realtors - did you ever stop to think that there is apparently enough demand for their service to keep us (good and bad) employed. Nobody is putting a gun to their head, right? There are plenty of wasy to advertise on your own. Maybe eventually the business model changes, but for now, enough people want the service. I suppose i "could" handle my own legal services, but I woulnd't. maybe if we hadn't created such a litigious society here, we wouldn't have the fear instilled in the general population.
