The corrupt and bloated Dennis Hastert enriches himself by $2,000,000 on land deal tied to highway bill

Nice to see the corrupt and bloated Dennis Hastert cash in on a $2 Million profit on a land deal in Illinois made possible by the highway bill he had drawn up and passed.

Throw the bums out. All of 'em. Let's start over in 2006. This bunch stinks. And I think there should be an investigation of every member of Congress's land and house deals over the past five years. There's gotta be more Hastert and Cunningham deals out there. Jail time awaits so many.

Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-IL) realized an estimated $2 million dollar profit last year on an Illinois land deal that included acreage near a future interstate highway Hastert pushed to build.

The land was sold just five months after Hastert inserted a $207 million appropriation bill for the Prairie Parkway highway during a closed-door Congressional budget conference.

The deal, representing a 300 per cent return on investment, was reported in Hastert's financial disclosure form filed this week, although the role of a secret trust set up by Hastert to sell the land was not disclosed.

A spokesman for Hastert, Ron Bonjean, confirmed the details, which were first reported by Bill Allison of the Sunlight Foundation, an on-line political watchdog group. The Speaker's spokesman said land in the Plano, Illinois area is "booming," and the future highway had no impact on the price.

Here is your highway from hell:

Why does the date 2010 keep appearing, such as the target date for the Can-AM-Mex trade union? That is mid-term election year. Are the repuglicans posturing for a retake of control after a loss in 08?

To my knowledge there is no crime or unethical action involved. Besides, he didn't store the kickback money in his feezer like some dem lawmakers.

When this happens in any other business it is called conflict of interest, fraud, and liable.

This guy is inconscienable, waiving his fiduciary duty to the nation and embracing the character shortfalls of greed, gluttony, pride, sloth, and wrath.

Hold it! You say “corrupt”, yet didn’t you say the same thing about Rove? If memory serves me right, you pirated a doctored photo of Rove in cuffs from some leftwing site a few weeks ago. Yet no charges are being filed.

Maybe your days as a political prognosticator are over.

You sure the f??? don’t know what is going to happen to Hastert much less anything else in the political circus.

When someone uses their insider knowledge to make a stock trade it is a crime.

If its OK behaviour, why is it in the news?

Ah, what a surprise. Criticism of a Republican apparatchik brings out the Republican tools, who don't even have the guts to attach a name to their straight-from-the-factory talking points.

Big deal. Look at the fat pile of garbage. The $2 million won't fix how fat, ugly and repulsive he is. Dude is a loser at life even if he had $50 billion. If you would trade your looks for his and $2 million, would you? I know I wouldn't.

Some crazy shit. I remember with the Secratary of the State - Jim Ryan. In a bid to make his name known prior to running for governor threw reckless accusations into the wind about contractor being the mafia. He sent a lot of good people to jail. And he became Govenor.

Recencently former Governor Ryan was sentance to prison for racketaring.

What comes around goes around.

It's about time the FEDs are wising up on who is the Mafia.

Corruption in politics? No way!

Just remember all you tools, R or D, the blade swings both ways, and all of you will eventually get cut.

.....yada, yada, yada.....yawn, BFD.

I don't think anything is shocking anymore. Remember, we sanctioned Cheney/Haliburton, everything else is moot. Our vice-president is the ex-CEO of the sole beneficiary of the Iraq invasion. No-bid, billion $$dollar contracts.... tell me that Cheney doesn't personally benefit from that relationship......give me a f'ing break! I'll take the $2,000,000 land deal any day. Heck, I'll even take a $300,000 Whitewater scandal.

Democrats are small time to the Republicans on getting money, they simply can't compete. Republicans know where to get their sweaty hands on the dough illegally and legally in excesses that a Democrat could only dream about.

I am even a Republican. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Would you please start another blog where you post your uninteresting political rants

The fat pig is going to kick the bucket any day now so I wonder what he thinks he is going to do with the two million ... a hooker spending spree!

I think fist fights are about to break out in the senate and I am going to love watching Kerry kick Cheney's butt.

Would you please stick out your tongue? One of my hemorrhoids is itching.

corruption is not a democrat or republican thing. it's a human thing. and both of these parties have corrupt members.

money has corrupted politics, and for the me-focused baby boom generation running the joint right now, corruption is par for the course.

Corruption does work for R and D that's true.

But there is a difference:

It is part of the Modern Republican philosophy (c.f. Grover Norquist) that Because Government Is Intrinsically Evil, It Is OK To Loot It.

They found that to their surprise (but not to anybody with a brain) that in fact massively slashing government is not as simple as they thought because in fact it does do things that people want. Actual cutbacks? Those are for the campaign platforms. Just direct the government's money to us, without any of the groveling little people who want a job or medicine getting in the way.

The R's nowadays steal on a far grander scale, and legally for the most part.

Democrats and Eisenhower Republicans see government as a necessary function which ought to be managed with probity and distinction.

War profiteering used to be called "war profiteering" and was ethically immoral. Today, in the modern elephant philosophy, it's outsourcing and a Triumph Of Free Enterprise. They love the smell of contractors getting rich in the Green Zone.

Modern Republicans see government as either an instrument of power to destroy designated enemies or a means to enrich people like them. No moral restrictions or need to be for "public purpose"---that's what evil liberals care about.

Now I'm not talking about all the registered Republican citizens out there.

But to paraphrase our Secretary of War, "you go to elections with Republican Politicians that you have, not the Republican Politicians that you want."

when did this turn into far left micheal moore blog?

Hey, how about Ted Kenndy: Murdering his pregrant girlfriend and covering it up was one thing but now he is blocking wind power turbines in MA since they would be near his luxury villa. I guess wind power is something that can be done near black people but not near Ted Kennedy's summer house.

Kieth did you remove my post, or did i just not take the time to posty it?

I just mentioned how this guy's mentor - former Governor Jim Ryan has been charge and convicted of racketaring and is going to prison. How Jim Ryan when he was the Secratary of the State made a a name for himself by putting away innocent people to prison - including my employer. When Ryan became over whelm with guilt he suspended the death pentalty. Can you believe clowns wanted the low life scum bag to recieve the noble peace prize for this? Like give Arafat the prize for taking a break from murder.

The real mafia is the government

You bunch of commie pricks, post your left wing pablum puking crap at Ariana Huffington's site"

It's hilarious to me that when I post something on someone who's a republican, the fox news wing get pissed to the point of hyperventilation, but when I post something that angers the democrats, I don't get the same lvel of vindictive angry garbage.

BTW, who the heck is Kieth? Relative of Keith?

It's interesting

After Jim Ryan destroyed the road construction business in illinios to prove he was tough on crime and the one to straighten out the govenor's office (of course later the public learned who the real criminal was).

I ended up in North Carolina.

Once again we had a corrupt department in the government that oversaw the road construction.

Friends appointed by the Democartic Governor. Were buying ural land and designing the new highways to have clover leafs at their properties.

Just as before in Illionois the Seceratary of the State diverted attention of the corruption in his office by going after contractors with reckless accusations.

This time the press was on top of things.

A lot of the North Caorina government mafia was run out of town.

I'm done with deal with the government, their exstortion techniques and blackmail attempts - building roads for home builders like Toll Brothers is where it is at.

Kieth: This blog has been a great place for housing bubble information and discussion. However, I really don't think it makes any sense to expand into political arena. This is pretty much 50-50 nation (at least when it comes to actually voting dem or rep) so I'd suggest keeping the politics out of this blog. There are too many far left/right blogs already out there. Of course, it's your blog and you can tailor it anyway you like.

What facts? $90,000 in his freezer?
Congressman Jefferson or Mollihan? Patrick Kennedy? McKinley?

If this is now officially a far left micheal moore blog I guess it makes sense to go elsewhere. We don't follow Jihadist or DailyKos websites either (where people are celebrating the mutilation and murder of american contractors in Iraq). I understand you must be bitter now that Al-Zarqadi is dead but I'm sure there are some pills for you. Who knows, maybe Al-Qaida wins in Iraq and Dems win in November. You still have some hope left.

BTW, intellectual reasoning is something else than copy-pasting Hitler text from dictionary.
